Paul Rieckhoff, Founder of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, to Kick off Talk on Walk for Warriors

The West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and New Directions, Inc. will host a breakfast on May 2, 2012 featuring Paul Rieckhoff, the Founder and Executive Director of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA).Rieckhoff will speak about IAVA’s work on behalf of veterans and the unique challenges facing the 2.4 million veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. Rieckhoff’s speech at the May 2 West Los Angeles Chamber breakfast will kick off a conversation about Walk for Warriors, a family-friendly Memorial Day 5K (3.1 mile) walk and run in West Los Angeles benefitting veterans. Helping Veteran Families Find and Remain in Permanent Housing

New Directions is offering a new homelessness prevention program. Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) will help very low-income veteran families stay in their current apartment or home and rapidly re-house those who have recently exited their housing.

Thanks to grant funding from the Department of Veterans Affairs, New Directions will provide case management outreach, permanent housing placement, financial planning services, and help obtaining appropriate VA benefits.
